Making Connections is a new arts festival for London, located in the unique Old Waiting Room at Peckham Rye station. Based on a unique combination of skills and interests around community, artistic practice, and place-making, Making Connections 2023 was a 6 week pilot season of performances, activities and events, creating access to arts and sparking a sense of optimism around Peckham’s unique heritage.
The project has its roots in local community action around the Old Waiting Room, seeking to repurpose it as a Town Hall for the 21st century, a centre for arts and community gatherings which celebrates Peckham’s unique and diverse heritage. Led by Rebecca McCutcheon, working closely with Benedict O Looney Architects, and Friends of the Old Waiting Room, partnered by the Arch Company, the project won Thriving High Streets funding from Southwark Council for its vision of placing public purpose at the heart of this venue.
The season taped into rich local talent and featured events with local writers, artists, musicians, actors and covered everything from music to yoga, from theatre to art.
Be curious, be transported, as you explore this stunning and unusual space coming to life in the heart of South East London.
