By traversing key data points, the artwork creates a unique experience for passengers - blending traditional mural painting with digital projection, to honour the past while envisioning a more connected and prosperous future.&nbsp; The artwork is a 72 square-metre hand-painted, eco-friendly mural on cotton fabric, brought to life through a vibrant digital animation projection. While the mural, depicting the iconic train carriage, remains&nbsp;as a permanent installation, the projection animates the carriage interior, using colourful graphics and data visualisations to communicate the extension’s broader social and economic benefits. Audio-visual experiences will illuminate the collective space to explore our mental state with softness, creativity and without judgement. Visitors will step into the immersive dome and discover untold narratives of female, non-binary and non-human vulnerability. Based on a unique combination of skills and interests around community, artistic practice, and place-making, Making Connections 2023 was a 6 week pilot season of performances, activities and events, creating access to arts&nbsp; and sparking a sense of optimism around Peckham’s unique heritage. The project has its roots in local community action around the Old Waiting Room, seeking to repurpose it as a Town Hall for the 21st century, a centre for arts and community gatherings which celebrates Peckham’s unique and diverse heritage. Led by&nbsp; Rebecca McCutcheon, working closely with Benedict O Looney Architects, and Friends of the Old Waiting Room, partnered by the Arch Company, the project won Thriving High Streets funding from Southwark Council for its vision of placing public purpose at the heart of this venue. The season taped into rich local talent and featured events with local writers, artists, musicians, actors and covered everything from music to yoga, from theatre to art. It is a place for 6 artists and designers to explore the concept of what it means to wait. We often see waiting with negative connotations - an inconvenience - something we try to avoid but in these chaotic times where we very seldom take our time to stop, maybe there is a way to reframe waiting as a gift in time.&nbsp; A pause for reflection, A forced moment to stop. The Old waiting room is a beautiful building - it represents a moment captured in time within the heritage and history of the architecture. It was Built in 1865 by the architect Charles Henry Driver. Since platform re-ordering in the 1960s much of the interior was bricked up and disused. In 2007 a&nbsp; campaign was launched to access the Grade II listed building and open it up to creative arts projects and celebrate its existence.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Each artist is encouraged to respond to the building's architecture in their response to the brief, being inspired by their surroundings and encompassing their creativity, ideas and work seamlessly into the space. This artist residency was a week long and culminated in an experimental show of the ideas. The artists are not bound to create a final outcome, it is more a chance to explore, research and develop and of course to work within such a beautiful space. <img width="1280" height="1920"
